BUILD KAMLOOPS

Agenda set for highly discussed Build Kamloops committee meeting

KAMLOOPS — At the past two regular meetings of Kamloops City Council members of the public have attempted to ask questions regarding the ongoing AAP, or Alternative Approval Process to build a performing arts centre and a 4-plex ice facility in the city as part of Build Kamloops.

However due to the AAP not being on the agenda, speakers have been rightly told under the community charter that there is no opportunity to discuss the process at the meeting and they are directed to the Lets Talk Kamloops website, where staff have been responding to questions from the public.

Confusion was abound as it was briefly suggested that the public would be able to ask questions at the next Build Kamloops committee meeting, set for Wednesday September 4, before committee chair Mike O’Reilly stated the agenda had not been set.

It was also stated by city staff that public input is not customarily part of committee meetings in the city and reserved for regular council meetings.
