Kamloops candidate Maddi Genn believes extreme Conservative views will bring BCU support to NDP

KAMLOOPS — With Todd Stone stepping down, the Kamloops-North Thompson riding has become a two-horse race, with only the BC Conservatives, with Ward Stamer, and BC NDP fielding candidates.

Rookie politician and NDP candidate Maddi Genn is carrying the NDP banner in the race, and while like many others she was shocked by the announcement on Wednesday (Aug. 28), she doesn’t plan to overly change her game plan in the run-up to October’s vote.

“Whether or not it’s one party or two, or 14, all I can do is be there for the people and make sure they are aware that I am dedicated to supporting them and their needs,” said Genn.

Genn stands by the policy and direction of the David Eby-led NDP government, highlighting some of the key differences between the right- and left-of-centre political foes.

“They often will vote BC United because the Conservative platform is a little bit too extreme for them, and that is really where I stand, as well,” said Genn. “At the end of the day, with or without BC United as part of the race, the Conservative party and John Rustad’s proposals are not something that the people of Kamloops can afford right now. The budget cuts, the lack of services.”

British Columbians are scheduled to head to the polls on October 19.
