KAMLOOPS – It was a storm that caught many by surprise.

“There was this loud bang and it was totally something I’d never heard before,” Kamloops resident Carey Marchand said. “I jumped up and I was like, ‘What was that?’ and the kids come running and we come to look and there is a tree at our door.”

Multiple trees fell across the city, causing damage to homes and injuring one person in Riverside Park.

Kamloops Fire Rescue responded to 14 calls within 25 minutes of the storm beginning, noting power lines, trees and debris came down.

“Kamloops got whacked with especially wind,” Environment Canada meteorologist Chris Doyle said. “I think the wind was probably the most consequential part of this storm. The maximum gust recorded at Kamloops airport was 93 kilometres per hour.”
