KAMLOOPS– The fourth edition of the Tournament Capital Classic took place this past weekend in Kamloops.

The event began at TCSC Kamloops before transitioning to Kenna Cartwright Park and ending at the Tournament Capital Centre.

The CrossFit-style showdown is hailed as Kamloops’ ultimate test of fitness, camaraderie and athletic prowess, welcoming competitors of all ages from across Western Canada.

“We started pretty small and then every year, it’s grown,” said Kent Aitchison, owner of TCSC Kamloops. “I think we had about 40 people in the first year. This year, we have 78 teams from all over B.C., Alberta and California participating.”

Those 78 teams went through various exercises to score points, many pushing themselves to hit personal records.

“Our fitness program is CrossFit primarily,” Aitchison said. “It involves a lot of weightlifting, gymnastics skills, conditioning and pretty much everything you can check a box for fitness. They are doing some wall walks, handstand walking, skipping and then some conditioning piece that is linked to a max clean to either a power cleaner or a squat clean. All those are separately scored to add to the athlete’s total each day.”

Stay Hard finished atop the competitive rankings, Sith Happens won the intermediate rankings, Justine’s Juggernauts finished first in the recreational division and Westside Connection and Easy Does It finished on top for the Masters Competitive and Intermediate division.
