Wind storm wreaks havoc in Kamloops Friday

KAMLOOPS — UPDATE (7:35 p.m.): Kamloops Airport says its operations are continuing as normal on backup power.

At least one flight has been cancelled — a 6:20 p.m. Air Canada departure to Vancouver.

In addition to Kamloops, BC Hydro is also reporting power outages in Salmon Arm, Chase and Clearwater.

EARLIER: A wind storm ripped through Kamloops early Friday evening (Aug. 23), leaving a path of destruction in its wake.

Trees were uprooted all over the city, blocking traffic and damaging property.

Meantime, BC Hydro reports an outage affecting nearly 1,300 customers in Brocklehurst.

There are reports of construction materials flying off Royal Inland Hospital.
