KAMLOOPS — Kamloops RCMP are renewing a warning about a man whose presence in the community they say could up the risk of public violence.

In a news release issued late Friday afternoon, Sgt. Kevin McIntyre of the detachment’s Targeted Enforcement Unit says 40-year-old Cameron Ronald Cole was released on bail earlier in the day.

Cole was arrested on Aug. 12 on an unendorsed warrant for possession of a loaded, restricted firearm and possession of a firearm while prohibited.

McIntyre says his release Friday came with a list of conditions.

“Following Cameron Cole’s recent arrest, the Kamloops RCMP Detachment informed the public that he had been taken into and remained in custody,” said McIntyre. “Now that he has been released, we feel it’s important to update residents, as he remains the subject of a public interest disclosure issued by police in May. Our concerns related to an increased risk of public violence in the community continue.”

McIntyre notes Cole will be monitored by a team of law enforcement officers, including RCMP, the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit’s Uniform Gang Enforcement Team and a bail supervisor.

In May, RCMP warned the public about gang violence related to Cole and 25-year-old Christopher Hunt. The two are also believed to have been involved in a North Shore shooting in July.
