Police solicit tips on 21-year-old hit-and-run that killed 100 Mile House woman

100 MILE HOUSE, B.C. — B.C. Highway Patrol (BCHP) is appealing to the public for help solving a cold case hit-and-run that took the life of a South Cariboo resident.

The incident took place in the wee hours of Saturday, April 19, 2003 — the Saturday of Easter long weekend.

At about 3:42 a.m., a truck driver came across a woman’s body in the right-hand southbound lane of Highway 97, just south of Highway 24. The driver notified emergency authorities immediately, but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim was later identified as 37-year-old Susan Davidson of 100 Mile House.

Investigators piecing together what happened determined Davidson had left a home in the area of 94 Mile House about 30 minutes before her body was found. Some time in that interval, she was struck by a vehicle whose driver fled the scene.

In a news release issued Thursday (Aug. 22), BCHP spokesperson Cpl. Melissa Jongema described the scene of the tragedy as rural and lightly developed with no street lightning. At the time of her death, Davidson was wearing a dark brown, ankle-length oilskin coat, similar to an Australian Outback coat.

“Highway 97 has always been a busy major traffic corridor. There is someone out there who knows what happened to Susan Davidson on April 19, 2003,” said Jongema in the release.

“BC Highway Patrol is asking that anyone who may have seen Susan walking that night, anyone who has any information about the hit-and-run, or anyone who may have hit something that they thought was an animal that night, to please contact BC Highway Patrol at 250-395-2456 and refer to file 2003-1225.”
