KELOWNA — UBC Okanagan School of Engineering professor Gord Lovegrove proposed an idea to students about 20 years ago, spurring them to contemplate light rail travel to connect the Okanagan Valley.

Since then, much research has been done on the Okanagan Valley Electric Regional Passenger Rail, a multi-billion-dollar project with analysis complete for a potential route along Highway 97.

Lovegrove — who is also a Kelowna city councillor — spoke to CFJC Today on Tuesday (Aug. 20) to talk route, sustainability, timeline, cost, and public, private and First Nation partnership.
