KAMLOOPS –  Kamloops RCMP have released a pair of blurry images of a person who is suspected of pouring a beer on Kamloops mayor Reid Hamer-Jackson in June.

Police say they were notified about an assault that happened on Friday, June 21 at a commercial establishment on the 300-block of Victoria Street. While police did not identify the business, the incident happened at the Blue Grotto nightclub, which is located at 319 Victoria Street downtown.

“As part of the investigation, police have since obtained security video, which shows a male suspect in a black hat, orange shirt, and black vest,” Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Crystal Evelyn said in a news release.

“The images are blurry, but we are hoping someone may be able to help us identify him, or witnessed the assault, which involved a suspect pouring liquid onto another individual.”

While specific details around the incident remain unclear, Hamer-Jackson made reference to it at a July press conference, claiming it was one of the many ways in which he had been “under fire” since he took office after the 2022 municipal election.

While he did not provide specifics citing an ongoing police investigation, Hamer-Jackson said that he had been “physically assaulted” in June.

Anyone with information related to the incident is asked to contact the Kamloops RCMP detachment at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2024-19698.
