Winning ticket brews Kamloops couple a warm $500,000

KAMLOOPS — A Kamloops couple can drink thousands of more cups of coffee thanks to a $500,000 Extra Prize win from the Aug. 3, 2024, Lotto 6/49 draw.
In a news release issued Thursday (Aug. 15), British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC) says Mark Wihlidal was drinking a cup of coffee at home when he checked the ticket he purchased from the Safeway on Fortune Drive. He immediately showed his wife Colleen.
“I drink a lot of coffee and I could feel the shock coming on,” Mark says. “It’s a good thing I was sitting down. Shock and coffee should not go together.”
BCLC says the Wihlidals plan to do a little more traveling and put a portion of their prize towards some home improvements. The Kamloops couple also plans to gift some to their kids, and are excited for a comfortable retirement.
