TNRD lifts evacuation alert for 80 properties near Shetland Creek wildfire

SPENCES BRIDGE, B.C. ā€” The Thompson-Nicola Regional District (TNRD) downgraded its final evacuation alert related to the Shetland Creek wildfire.

In a news release issued Thursday (Aug. 15) morning, the TNRD says 80 properties in Electoral Area ā€œIā€ (Blue Sky Country) have been given an all clear status.

The following properties are no longer on evacuation alert:

  • 3160 Hat Creek Rd.; 3230 Hat Creek Rd.; 3240 Hat Creek Rd.; 3260 Hat Creek Rd.; 3550 Hat Creek Rd.; 3750 Hat Creek Rd.; and 3760 Hat Creek Rd.
  • TNRD properties in the Oregon Jack area
  • 57 addressed locations within the Community of Venables Valley
  • all properties as outlined in the attached map

However, an evacuation order remains in effect for nearly 19 properties in the Venables Valley, Onion Lake and Turnip Lake areas as outlined in the attached map.

Should conditions change, the TNRD says an evacuation order or alert will be reinstated as necessary.

In its latest update Thursday morning, the BC Wildfire Service lists the Shetland Creek wildfire at 28,082 hectares. It is still listed as a wildfire of note.
