Recent scam swindles thousands from Cariboo residents: Williams Lake RCMP
WILLIAMS LAKE, B.C. — Williams Lake RCMP say they have received two separate reports in as many days where individuals have been scammed out of thousands of dollars.
In a news release issued Wednesday (Aug. 14), RCMP say the victims were contacted online from a company called High Growth Video Media. After being told they could make a lot of money, the victims reportedly gave the scammers large sums of cash, which was then converted to cryptocurrenty.
“Police want to warn the public to be very aware of who you conduct financial transactions with. Anyone can create this sort of website and these types of crimes are almost impossible to trace,” Cst. Nicole Bagush with Williams Lake RCMP says.
Anyone who encounters any kind of suspected scam is asked to report it to their local police detachment and visit the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre for more information.
