KAMLOOPS — The PIT Stop meal program out of Kamloops United Church says it doesn’t plan on missing this Sunday’s meal service – even after a fire on Tuesday (Aug. 13) damaged the building along St. Paul Street.

Over the years, PIT Stop has become a crucial part of food security for people in need in Kamloops. For instance, last Sunday, the meal service fed 250 people.

PIT Stop’s coordinator Valentine Uwakwe says they’re still finalizing what exactly they’ll be doing in the meantime, as the kitchen and dining area will likely be out of use as the rest of the building undergoes repairs. But they won’t be missing a meal day.

“We understand the importance of consistency to food support and every kind of support to someone who is struggling,” he explains, “So we’ll do our very best to keep PIT Stop alive and to manage the situation.”

As for this coming Sunday (Aug. 18), PIT Stop confirms it will be giving out some kind of food and refreshment to those in need. Same time, same place.

“Like I said, PIT Stop is here, alive, and active. Come to the same place, the same venue,” adds Uwakwe, “We’re still working out our other options as well. But we’re trying our best and we’ll do every possible thing within our hands to make sure that PIT Stop is active and alive.”
