Severe thunderstorm watch issued for Kamloops and area Friday
KAMLOOPS — A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for the Fraser Canyon, Nicola and South Thompson regions Friday (Aug. 9).
Environment Canada states conditions are favourable for the development of dangerous thunderstorms that may produce damaging wind gusts and torrential rain.
“Very strong wind gusts can damage buildings, down trees and blow large vehicles off the road. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads,” the weather agency states.
Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.
