KAMLOOPS — With last week’s closure of The Loop’s day room, the Salvation Army is stepping up to fill the void created in terms of food insecurity.

The Salvation Army is adding a North Shore stop to their weekly lunch service that already makes multiple stops along the Valleyview corridor. The lunch service in partnership with the Kamloops Aboriginal Friendship Society (KAFS) will provide free meals to those in need every Tuesday moving forward.

“Every Tuesday at 11:15 we arrive there (outside of the old Dynasty Gardens), we serve lunch for the community, everybody is welcome, no cost. It’s delicious lunches, it’s pulled pork, meatballs and potatoes, sometimes sandwiches, all kinds of different things so it’s always a good meal,” said Susanne Gore-Flukinger, Resource Centre Coordinator with the Salvation Army in Kamloops.

While the service will help fill a need on Tuesday’s, the salvation army noted work still needs to be done to address the issue, including the relaunching of their seniors breakfast program in September.

“We all want to do something to help out in the community. We had one stop on the north shore but not in this area. so, we were talking to Cal (Albright) and the gang from KAFS and they said hey do it right here and that worked out really well for us. So we’ve been there for a few weeks now and glad to fill in a gap,” said Gore-Flukinger
