Township of Spallumcheen issues evacuation order due to Hullcar Mountain wildfire

SPALLUMCHEEN, B.C. — The Township of Spallumcheen issued an evacuation order due to the threat from the Hullcar Mountain Wildfire.

The Township issued the order for the following properties at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6:

Spallumcheen also issued a new evacuation alert Tuesday evening for the following properties:

The Township said anyone in the evacuation order area should leave immediately, and people in the alert area should prepare their grab-and-go bags and be ready to leave if conditions change.

The Columbia Shuswap Regional District also expanded its evacuation alert area to include the east side of Salmon River Road and the west side of Deep Creek Road. The Splatsin First Nation’s evacuation alerts were unchanged Tuesday evening.

The BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) said the fire was 380 hectares as of 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, having grown from the 330 hectares reported earlier in the day.

The BCWS stated there were six initial attack crews, one rappel crew, three parattack crews, one wildfire officer, five helicopters, heavy equipment and structure protection assigned to the blaze Tuesday evening.
