KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops NorthPaws won their three-game series against the Bellingham Bells 2-1 from Norbrock Stadium.

The NorthPaws blew out the Bells in the first game Tuesday (July 30) 13-4 with TJ Wachter batting 4-for-5 with six RBI, finishing a triple shy of the cycle.

However, the Bells returned the favour with a 7-0 shutout win of their own Wednesday.

In the series finale Thursday, the NorthPaws erased a 5-0 deficit and came back to win 6-5. Thompson Rivers University WolfPack pitcher Kolby Lukinchuk tossed 8.1 innings, allowing five earned runs off 11 hits with two strikeouts. Lukinchuk became the NorthPaws’ all-time leading in innings pitched.

“I know hitting is a hard game and I know that if I just throw strikes the guys behind me will make the plays and bail me out,” Lukinchuk says. “I had to do some begging in between innings (to get the 9th), he let me start it, but we had to play a matchup, and I fully understand that, And I totally respect (manager Jose Bautista) for it.”

The NorthPaws are 8-14 in the second half of the 2024 West Coast League season, and 15-33 overall. They’ll play their final two home games at Norbrock Stadium against the Kelowna Falcons over the B.C. Day long weekend.

The NorthPaws host the Falcons Friday at 6:35 p.m., travel to Kelowna on Saturday, then play their home finale Sunday at 2:35 p.m.
