Emergency department at Nicola Valley Hospital in Merritt temporarily closed for sixth time in July

MERRITT, B.C. — The emergency department at Nicola Valley Hospital in Merritt will be unavailable Sunday (July 28) night.

In a news release, Interior Health says the temporary closure of Merritt’s ER from 5:00 p.m. Sunday until 8:00 a.m. Monday is due to limited nursing availability.

Residents needing emergency services are asked to visit Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops. However, all other inpatient services will continue as normal at the Merritt hospital.

Anyone who is unsure whether an emergency room visit is needed can call HealthLink BC at 8-1-1 non-emergency health information from nurses, dietitians and pharmacists.

It’s the eighth temporary closure of Nicola Valley Hospital’s emergency department in 2024, and the sixth in July.
