KAMLOOPS — Just before 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday (July 24), Kamloops Fire Rescue (KFR) was called out to a structure fire on the North Shore.

The fire began in a detached garage on Birch Street, just off Schubert Drive, before spreading to a nearby parked travel trailer. KFR responded with four units before quickly increasing the response.

“Responded with four units initially and then upgraded with the amount of smoke we had. Once we got here on scene, we noticed with was a detached garage and a trailer. Had a quick knockdown and were able to release some trucks fairly quickly. Now we are just standing by, monitoring it to make sure everything is cooled off,” Jim Gorman, KFR Captain says.

A fire investigator was responding to the scene on Wednesday, but the cause of the blaze was not yet confirmed.

KFR was able to prevent the fire from spreading beyond the garage and travel trailer, protecting the house and neighbouring properties.

“The guys did a really good job of a quick knockdown, keeping it contained, protecting exposures. Neighbour helped out a bit too with the garden hose. He had protected his own property a little bit which helped,” Gorman adds.
