Jul 21, 2024 | 8:19 AM

SPENCES BRIDGE, B.C. — Indigenous and non-Indigenous members of the public are being called on by the Cook’s Ferry Indian Band to help with fire mitigation work.

No experience is required for the paid work and clothing will be provided.

Those who sign up will work alongside the First Nations’ Emergency Services Society of BC performing fire mitigation and fire smarting duties up to eight hours per day.

The call for help was issued on Saturday (July 20) in a Cook’s Ferry Indian Band press release, with the area under evacuation orders and alerts due to the Shetland Creek wildfire, which is listed at 14,380.9 hectares as of Sunday (July 21) morning.
