KAMLOOPS — Kamloops RCMP responded to approximately 406 calls for service from Friday, July 12 to 9:00 a.m. on Monday, July 15, 2024. Below are some incidents police attended.

Downtown Assault

A call-out to a reported assault resulted in the seizure of multiple weapons and drugs on Sunday evening (July 14).

Kamloops RCMP say at around 5:30 p.m., officers had responded to an alleged assault of a man in front of City Hall along West Victoria Street. Police found the victim and a number of people in the area who were known to police. The man was taken to hospital by ambulance.

While investigating the scene, officers seized bear spray, a large knife, a replica firearm, brass knuckles, a stolen electric scooter and 15 grams of suspected fentanyl. Two intoxicated men were arrested and taken to cells to sober up, then later released.

The assault investigation is ongoing, alongside a drug trafficking investigation.

Anyone who saw anything related to the incident or has information about it is asked to contact Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2024-22399.

Driver Arrested

A report of a suspected impaired driver in the early hours of Monday morning (July 15) wound up leading police to a man prohibited from driving.

Just before 4:00 a.m. on Monday, frontline officers had been called to the 300-block of Columbia Street for a report of a potentially impaired driver behind the wheel of a red SUV.

Police found the car, which allegedly fled on to the highway. Officers tracked down the vehicle shortly after at a residence, and arrested the driver — who is known to police — for failure to comply with release conditions, and for prohibited and dangerous driving.

The man was released with a court date and conditions and RCMP say charge recommendations are anticipated.

Anyone with information that may be related is asked to contact the detachment at 250-828-3000 and reference 2024-22443.

Warrant arrest

Kamloops RCMP say officers found a wanted man after he allegedly gave police a fake name that belonged to a prolific offender.

On Saturday evening (July 13) around 8:00 p.m., RCMP were called to the 900-block of Columbia Street West for a theft report. A suspect was found and arrested nearby, and was held in custody. The suspect is alleged to have given police a false name.

Shortly after, the man was recognized by another officer, who shared the suspect’s legitimate identity and that he was wanted on a warrant.

An unendorsed warrant for aggravated assault was executed, and the suspect was arrested for obstruction. Charge recommendations were submitted.

Guns, weapons seized

Mounties say an investigation around a sighting of a suspicious vehicle early Friday morning (July 12) resulted in the seizure of multiple weapons and suspected drugs.

Around 6:40 a.m. Friday, frontline officers were patrolling the downtown area when they found a grey Ford pickup truck in a parking lot along Seymour Street which was associated to a suspicious vehicle report.

While investigating the vehicle, police seized what appeared to be an assault rifle and mag, a handgun, knives, zap straps, a wig, suspected drugs and other items.

Two men were arrested in relation to the search and later released without process, pending further investigation. Meantime, the truck was impounded for mechanical deficiencies.

Members of the public who have information that could be related to this incident are asked to contact the Kamloops RCMP Detachment at 250-828-3000 and reference file 2024-22073.
