WILLIAMS LAKE, B.C. — Two men were arrested and remain in custody after dangerous driving in Williams Lake Wednesday (July 17) morning.

Williams Lake RCMP say officers were told of a late ’90s burgundy Chevrolet pickup truck speeding on Western Avenue at around 4:30 a.m. Wednesday.

RCMP say officers found the pickup travelling on Mackenzie Avenue at speeds higher than 100 km/h at around 4:50 a.m.

The vehicle narrowly missed colliding with two vehicles. Police could clearly see the driver and identity was established. Due to the potential high risk to public safety, police did not pursue the truck.

“The vehicle narrowly missed colliding with two vehicles,” RCMP state. “Police could clearly see the driver and identity was established. Due to the potential high risk to public safety, police did not pursue the pickup.”

Police saw the truck speeding again along Third Avenue at around 5:00 a.m., saying it came dangerously close to an officer. Shortly after, at around 5:30 a.m., police say the pickup nearly struck a civilian on Mackenzie Avenue, then sped away and attempted to ram two other police vehicles.

Finally, at around 6:18 a.m., police were told the pick-up was on fire at Moon Avenue and that both occupants had run away. The two men were eventually found on Third Avenue.

“The driving behavior displayed by the suspect put many lives in harm’s way. This behavior will not be tolerated, and we are thankful no one was injured,” S/Sgt Brad McKinnon says.

Anyone who witnessed the reported dangerous driving or has video of the driver and his vehicle is asked to call Williams Lake RCMP at (250) 392-6211.
