New wildfire ignites near Three Valley
KAMLOOPS — A wildfire discovered in the Shuswap Monday (July 15) morning has grown to 4.2 hectares in size.
The BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) says on its online map that the fire is at Wap Creek south of Three Valley Gap. It’s suspected to be caused by lightning.
It’s one of five reported out of control wildfires within the Kamloops Fire Centre. Three are west of the Thompson River and the Trans Canada Highway near Spences Bridge. A 50-hectare fire is 7.5 kilometres north of the community, an 11-hectare fire is 5.5 kilometres north and a 0.1-hectare spot fire is west. The fifth is a 1.5-hectare fire two kilometres south of Stein Valley west of Lytton.
Four active wildfires within the Kamloops Fire Centre are behind held, including an 11.2-hectare fire and two spot fires north of Merritt and a 2.3-hectare wildfire southwest of Ashcroft. Seven wildfires are listed as under control.
