TNRD offers extra days of curbside trash collection for flood-affected Savona residents

SAVONA, B.C. — The Thompson Nicola Regional District is offering a helping hand to Savona residents still cleaning up after the flash flood that hammered the village during the Canada Day long weekend.
The district will carry out curbside waste collection on Thursday (July 18) and July 23, with the Savona Improvement District providing disposal bags for residents.
Those affected by the flood are asked to sort debris into as many as six distinct piles:
- Drywall and asbestos containing materials (keep separate, double bag in 6 mil bags)
- Mattresses, metal, large appliances and furniture (stacked neatly)
- Any spoiled food must be removed from fridges/freezers and double bagged
- Wood and large building debris
- Bagged refuse
- No hazardous or liquid materials such as oil, gas or other chemicals will be accepted curbside
