WILLIAMS LAKE, B.C. — On the heels of another overnight closure of the emergency department at the hospital in Williams Lake, leadership in the Cariboo has now requested that Interior Health conduct an internal review.

At a council meeting Tuesday evening (July 9), Williams Lake mayor and council requested IH review its operations and management at Cariboo Memorial Hospital. Notification of the most recent overnight emergency room shutdown was sent out just before council went into its scheduled meeting.

“In light of recent and other ongoing emergency room closures and health care disruptions, I’m asking everyone to come together to help to find a solution,” Mayor Surinderpal Rathor states in the city news release. “Let’s focus on working together to figure out a way to fix this situation. The residents of Williams Lake and the surrounding region deserve reliable and responsive health care.”

In its request, Williams Lake city council has also asked Interior Health to keep the city and other regional governments and First Nations informed during the review process.
