KAMLOOPS — RCMP are releasing a pair of images to the public in an effort to advance their investigation into a brazen gangland shooting on the Kamloops North Shore last week.

The shooting took place last Wednesday (July 3) at about 6:50 p.m., near the Sandbar Grill restaurant in the 100-block of Tranquille Road. A 40-year-old man, known to police, was left with serious, non-life-threatening injuries.

Wednesday (July 10), investigators released a blurry image of two suspects believed to have been involved in the incidents, along with an image of an SUV they may have been driving.

“We are interested in hearing from anyone who saw either of the two male suspects described, or the Grey Audi SQ5 at any time on July 3,” said Sgt. Kevin McIntyre of the Kamloops RCMP Targeted Enforcement Unit. “This shooting happened in a public area, at a time of day when numerous innocent bystanders were present. We are hopeful that someone has information to help further this and other recent investigations believed to be part of the ongoing conflict between local drug traffickers.”

In May, RCMP warned the public about violence related to a conflict between local drug dealers.

Meantime, police resources have been upped in Kamloops since the shooting last week, including the Uniform Gang Enforcement Team (UGET) of the provincial Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit. The increased police presence has seized hatchets, knives, nunchakus and a makeshift spear from suspects. Officers also seized large amounts of suspected methamphetamine, crack cocaine, ketamine and fentanyl.

“While we continue to disrupt the illegal activities of those involved in the drug trade and investigate occurrences related to the recent violence, we ask the public to please contact police with any information that may be related, and to be vigilant in reporting criminal and suspicious activity to police,” said Kamloops RCMP Operations Officer Insp. Justin Thiessen.

Those with further information on the shooting incident are asked to contact Kamloops RCMP at (250) 828-3000 and refer to file number 2024-20995.
