EDMONTON — Keith Mamby pitched a gem to help his Kamloops NorthPaws start the second half of the West Coast League baseball campaign with a victory.

He allowed one run on five hits over nine innings in the complete-game win, a 3-1 triumph over the Edmonton Riverhawks on Friday (July 5) in the Alberta capital.

Kamloops will be aiming to nab its third consecutive victory on Saturday (July 6) in Edmonton in Game 2 of the three-game weekend series.

The WCL season consists of two halves featuring 27-games apiece.

Eight teams — four each from the North Division and South Division — will qualify for the post-season, incuding the winners of the first and second halves of the season and the two teams from each division with the best overall records that did not win either of the halves (or otherwise qualify).

Kamloops is 1-0 in second-half North Division standings after compiling a record of 7-19 in the first half.

The Riverhawks are 0-1 after posting a 18-9 mark in the first half.
