Lytton River Festival aiming to celebrate village ‘rebirth,’ but needs sponsors

LYTTON — Organizers of the 2024 Lytton River Festival are calling on B.C. businesses, community groups and First Nations organizations to support the annual event, as key government funding has fallen through, creating an urgent need for sponsors to ensure the festival’s success.

The Lytton River Festival, held on the Labour Day weekend, is a celebration of the area’s rich cultural heritage, natural beauty and community spirit, according to a festival press release.

The 2024 Festival is slated to be held in the village itself, representing a significant milestone considering the village’s near total destruction in the devastating 2021 wildfires.

“With all of the delays and challenges we’ve faced over the past few years, the festival – especially now that it’ll be held in the village – is somewhat symbolic of our rebirth as a community,” Lytton River Festival President Jessoa Lightfoot said in the release.

“We are determined to again host a successful festival during the Labour Day weekend, but we cannot do it alone. We are reaching out for support, hoping that past sponsors will renew their commitment and new sponsors will join us in making this event possible.”

The Village of Lytton has reached a significant milestone in its reconstruction following the devastating wildfire in 2021.

The first building permit was issued last fall and construction is underway to rebuild the community. This progress has brought much-needed excitement and hope to the residents, but there is still a long road ahead.
