Severe thunderstorm watch issued for Nicola and Shuswap regions
MERRITT, B.C. — The risk of a severe thunderstorm lingers for one more day in regions surrounding Kamloops.
Environment Canada issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the Nicola and Shuswap regions Tuesday (July 2). The weather agency states conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain.
“Large hail can damage property and cause injury,” Environment Canada states. “Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Water-related activities may be unsafe due to violent and sudden gusts of wind over bodies of water.”
Additionally, the weather agency says there’s an increased risk of debris flow over areas burned by fire.
