UPDATE: Highway 1 through Savona reopens but ‘speed reduction’ in place following flash flood

UPDATE (9:45 p.m.): DriveBC reports Highway 1 through Savona has reopened.

However, “speed reduction” is in place for crews on scene. DriveBC doesn’t specify what the posted speed limit is.

Another update is due at 8:00 a.m. Monday.

EARLIER: KAMLOOPS — The Trans Canada Highway through the community of Savona will be closed Sunday (June 30) night.

Photos and videos contributed to CFJC Today at around 6:15 p.m. Sunday show the stretch of Highway 1 flooded in the community west of Kamloops.

At around 7:00 p.m. Sunday, DriveBC reported the stretch of Highway 1 between Tunkwa Lake Road and Vavasour Road was closed in both directions. Another update is not due until 12:30 a.m. Monday.

A severe thunderstorm watch was issued for the South Thompson region Sunday morning.
