Grewal to be acclaimed as BC NDP candidate in Kamloops Centre

KAMLOOPS — The BC New Democratic Party (NDP) has its nominee for the newly formed Kamloops Centre riding.

Kamal Grewal, a former international student advisor at TRU World, will be acclaimed as the Kamloops Centre BC NDP candidate on July 13.

Speaking to CFJC Today Sunday (June 30), Kamloops Centre BC NDP President Tom Friedman says Grewal is the only approved candidate after Kamloops Councillor Bill Sarai withdrew from the nomination race.

“[Sarai] explained he wanted to focus on his role on council,” Friedman says. “[Grewal has] proven to me, and the rest of our executive, that she’s going to be a strong campaigner. She’s got a lot of skills in working with people and representing our community.”

With Grewal’s acclamation, all four parties with official party status in the B.C. Legislative Assembly have their nominees for Kamloops Centre.

Grewal will represent the governing BC NDP, incumbent Kamloops-North Thompson MLA Peter Milobar will represent BC United, Dennis Giesbrecht will represent the Conservative Party of British Columbia and Randy Sunderman will represent the Greens of British Columbia.

British Columbians are slated to go to the polls on or before Oct. 19, 2024.
