KAMLOOPS — The former developer of Tobiano is BC United’s new nominee for the Cariboo-Chilcotin riding ahead of the 2024 B.C. general election.

Mike Grenier, the current Thompson-Nicola Regional District director for Electoral Area “J” (Copper Desert Country), was unveiled as the Official Opposition’s nominee for Cariboo-Chilcotin during a news conference at the Delta Hotel in downtown Kamloops Friday (June 28) morning.

“I am committed to enhancing the rural, urban, and recreational lifestyle experiences for all residents and visitors,” Grenier states. “My vision includes fostering economic growth, improving local amenities, and ensuring a high quality of life for everyone in our community. I look forward to earning the trust and support of voters, with common sense policies and the work ethic the people of Cariboo-Chilcotin expect.”

Grenier attempted to enter the provincial political scene in 2016 when he threw his hat in for the BC Liberal nomination in the Kamloops-North Thompson riding. He fell short to Peter Milobar, current Kamloops-North Thompson MLA and BC United candidate for the newly formed Kamloops Centre riding, in that year’s nomination race.

Grenier becomes BC United’s second nominee for the Cariboo-Chilcotin riding after incumbent MLA Lorne Doerkson crossed the floor to the BC Conservatives in May.

Along with Grenier with BC United and Doerkson with the BC Conservatives, Michael Moses with the BC NDP will run in the Cariboo-Chilcotin riding ahead of October’s provincial election. The BC Green Party does not yet have a declared candidate.
