KAMLOOPS — Submissions are open for artists looking for a new space to create a mural in the Kamloops area.

A Way Home Kamloops, which will be opening its new youth housing development, Katherine’s Place, later this year is trying to find an artist to paint a mural on the side of the building.

Executive Director Tangie Genshorek says they’re hoping for a large scale mural design, to brighten up the building wall.

“So the other side of the building when you’re coming down Tranquille Road headed north, you see this big cinderblock wall, it’s 47 feet wide and 40 feet tall, and we want a great big mural there,” explains Genshorek.

Genshorek says A Way Home, along with the North Shore Business Improvement Association, have partnered to put out the Request for Proposals.

“Ideally it’s going to encapsulate the values that we are hoping to embody at Katherine’s Place around youth empowerment, connections to community, highlight the connection to Secwépemc culture and Secwepemcúl’ecw and really serve as a beacon of positivity as far as art goes on that wall.”

Application information can be found on A Way Home Kamloops’ website (click here), and the deadline to submit a proposal is July 5.
