KAMLOOPS — Wednesday’s (June 26) thunderstorm ignited a pair of spot fires within the Kamloops Fire Centre.

Mikhail Elfay, a fire information officer with the BC Wildfire Service, says one single tree spot fire was reported north of Kamloops Lake while the other was reported west of Pritchard.

“The storm came with precipitation, which means most of these fires received rain at the same time they started,” Elfay says. “We’re very confident that these fires should stay within the footprint they’re in right now.”

The two new spot fires are three wildfires listed as out of control in the Kamloops Fire Centre. The other is the 151-hectare Tiffin Creek wildfire alongside Highway 99 between Cache Creek and Lillooet.
