LILLOOET, B.C. — A noticeable wildfire is burning alongside Highway 99 from Cache Creek to Lillooet.

The BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) says the Tiffin Creek wildfire nearly 15 kilometres north of Lillooet was discovered Monday (June 24) afternoon and has since grown to 60 hectares in size. The out-of-control wildfire is suspected to be human caused.

“The wildfire is… currently burning on a steep slope with rank 3 fire behaviour – displaying an organized flame front and moderate rate of spread,” BCWS states. “Currently no structures are being threatened.”

BCWS notes the Tiffin Creek wildfire is highly visible from Highway 99 and the communities of Lillooet and Pavilion. Additionally, DriveBC notes there’s limited visibility on a small stretch of Highway 99 south of Pavilion due to wildfire smoke.

As of Tuesday morning, there are four active wildfires within the Kamloops Fire Centre. Three are under control and the Tiffin Creek wildfire is the only one burning out of control.

As of noon Monday, the Kamloops Fire Centre was given a fire danger rating ranging from low to moderate.
