Man charged with manslaughter following death of 66-year-old Sicamous woman

SICAMOUS, B.C. — A man has been charged with manslaughter following the death of a woman in the Shuswap.

Sicamous RCMP say officers responded to a mobile home park at 1707 Hillier Road in Sicamous at around 4:48 a.m. Wednesday (June 19) for the report of an unresponsive woman in a driveway.

In a news release issued Thursday afternoon, RCMP say despite paramedics’ efforts, 66-year-old Jo Ann Jackson of Sicamous was declared dead at the scene. Police say they have identified Jackson to further the investigation.

A man was found in the area, and he was arrested and sent to the Salmon Arm RCMP detachment. Police say he was released from custody Thursday with conditions, including not returning to the property at 1707 Hillier Road in Sicamous.

“Jackson’s death is believed to be an isolated incident. However, investigators believe there could be a potential public safety risk” RCMP state. “Therefore, police will also be implementing additional measures within our authority in an effort to mitigate public safety concerns.”

Anyone with video between 1:00 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 19, within the area of Hillier Road to the Trans Canada Highway in Sicamous is asked to contact the Southeast District Major Crime Unit Tip Line at 1-877-987-8477.
