Second stage of Lansdowne Street construction expected to begin in late June

KAMLOOPS — Traffic at a stretch of the Lansdowne Street corridor is expected to resume after undergoing nearly two months of construction.

However, the City of Kamloops notes the City Centre Sanitary Upgrades Project is moving east.

In a news release issued Tuesday (June 18), the City says stage one of the construction on Lansdowne Street from First Avenue to Second Avenue is expected to be complete on Friday, June 28. But stage two – Lansdowne Street from Second Avenue to Fourth Avenue – is also expected to begin on that day.

The City says there will also be temporary impacts at the intersection of Second Avenue and Lansdowne Street in early July, followed by temporary impacts at the intersection of Third Avenue at Lansdowne Street in early August.

“In conjunction with the onset of stage two, crews will be restoring Lansdowne Street between First Avenue and Second Avenue and Lorne Street between Uji Way and Lansdowne Street. The 2nd Avenue and Seymour Street detour will also be removed, and traffic patterns along that corridor will return to normal effective June 28,” the city states.

The City Centre Sanitary Upgrades Project is meant to install a trunk sewer main on Lansdowne Street from First Avenue to Seventh Avenue. Matt Kachel, the city’s capital projects manager, says it’s meant to accommodate the rapid business and residential growth in downtown Kamloops.

Stage two of the City Centre Sanitary Upgrades Project is expected to wrap up in late August, although the city notes the timeline is dependent on weather.
