KAMLOOPS — Twenty beds for First Nations children, youth and families are coming to Kamloops thanks to a substantial grant.

In a news release issued Tuesday (June 18) morning, Secwépemc Child and Family Services Agency (SCFSA) announced it was awarded a $7.3 million grant from the National Indigenous Collaborative Housing Inc. (NICHI). The NICHI aims to provide access to safe, affordable, secure and dignified housing to all Indigenous people across Canada.

SCFSA says the grant will go towards creating two housing projects — rapid response housing and transitional housing in urban Kamloops.

The rapid response housing option will accommodate individuals for up to 90 days, while the transitional housing option will support occupants for up to two years.
