North Shuswap mosquito population under control this spring: CSRD
SCOTCH CREEK, B.C. — The Columbia Shuswap Regional District (CSRD) is giving North Shuswap residents the go-ahead to bare their arms, saying it has been a quiet spring for nuisance mosquitoes.
The district says it has conducted mosquito larvicide spraying in the Scotch Creek area, along with areas authorized by BC Parks and the Skw’lax te Secwepemcúlecw.
In addition, the relatively low Shuswap Lake level has led to very little standing water in the parts of Shuswap Lake Provincial Park that usually serve as mosquito breeding grounds.
“Mother Nature isn’t being kind to the mosquito population in Scotch Creek this summer, which is great news for the comfort of residents and visitors,” said the CSRD’s Ben Van Nostrand in a news release. “Without high-water conditions, we haven’t needed to conduct extensive treatment.”
