TK’EMLUPS TE SECWEPEMC — Friday’s (June 21) National Indigenous Peoples Day celebration will include an aerial light show billed as one of the first of its kind outside the Lower Mainland.

Tourism Kamloops and Tk’emlups te Secwepemc have teamed up to put on the display, which will feature “animals significant to Indigenous culture.”

The National Indigenous Peoples Day cultural celebration will begin at 4:00 p.m. at the Tk’emlups special events facility, featuring vendors, traditional dancing and drumming, music and children’s activities.

The light show is set for 10:00 p.m.

“As Indigenous people we are robust, courageous, and inviting,” said Tk’emlups Kukpi7 Rosanne Casimir in a news release. “We look forward to sharing the afternoon with you while listening to traditional music, playing games, enjoying food, and ending the evening by mesmerizing all of you with a never-before-seen aerial light show. We look forward to honouring and recognizing the contributions of our people with you all.”

The event is open to the public and free of charge.
