Rivers FC earns split with Burnaby FC at Hillside Stadium

KAMLOOPS — Rivers FC played host to Burnaby FC in men’s and women’s League1 BC soccer matches on Sunday (June 16) at Hillside Stadium, with the hometown club earning a split.

Ryan Lewis and Robert Woodroffe-Brown bulged the old onion bag for Rivers in a 2-1 victory over Burnaby in the men’s tilt.

Gavin McFee picked up the victory between the pipes, helping the home side improve to two wins, five losses and one tie on the campaign.

Kyle Dent scored the lone goal for Burnaby (1-3-2), an 86th-minute marker in a comeback effort that fell short.

Burnaby (5-1-1) recovered from a one-goal deficit to edge Rivers 2-1 in the women’s match.

Raiya Rumo scored in the 14th minute to give Rivers (1-4-3) a 1-0 lead in support of goalkeeper Kelsey Fisher.

Shila Rasoul answered for Burnaby before the end of the first half and Kate Carter notched the winning marker in the 60th minute.

Both Rivers clubs will toil against TSS Rovers on June 28 in Burnaby at Swangard Stadium.
