Unsettled weekend weather could bring storms to Interior, snow to mountain passes: Environment Canada

Jun 14, 2024 | 2:15 PM

KAMLOOPS — Next week may mark the official start of summer, but someone forgot to tell Mother Nature.

Environment Canada says there is the potential for snow on the high mountain passes this weekend. Those high elevation highways include the Coquihalla, the Okanagan Connector, Allison Pass, Kootenay Pass and Rogers Pass.

The forecaster says a cool airmass will combine with occasional heavy precipitation. At higher elevations, that may mean as much as five centimetres of snow.

Motorists are urged to prepare for changing conditions.

Meantime, the weather system is bringing the potential for a different brand of severe weather to the North Thompson and Cariboo — violent thunderstorms.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch was put in place Friday (June 14) for the North Thompson, 100 Mile House and Cariboo regions.

Environment Canada says the storm systems could bring strong wind gusts and large hail.
