KAMLOOPS — Drivers on the Coquihalla Highway from Kamloops to Merritt and the Okanagan Connector from Merritt to Kelowna are encouraged to pay closer attention to their surroundings Tuesday (June 11) afternoon.

A wind warning is in effect for the stretches of Highway 5 and Highway 97C. Environment Canada says strong west and southwest winds of 70 km/h are expected to gust up to 90 km/h Tuesday afternoon.

“High winds may toss loose objects or cause tree branches to break,” Environment Canada states. “Utility outages may occur. Motorists, especially in high profile vehicles, may expect hazardous driving conditions on highways subject to strong cross winds.”

The weather agency notes the strong winds are expected to subside this evening.
