TNRD frustrated by repeated acts of vandalism in Lower Nicola’s Smith Pioneer Park
LOWER NICOLA, B.C. — The Thompson Nicola Regional District (TNRD) is appealing to the public after a string of vandalism incidents at park near Merritt.
In a news release, TNRD Community Services Coordinator Jo Kang says the most recent acts of destruction at Smith Pioneer Park in Lower Nicola took place last weekend.
“On June 8, mirrors were smashed in the men’s bathroom, a garbage can from the women’s bathroom was dumped into the men’s toilet, and bodily fluids were discharged on the floors and other areas,” says the release. “On June 9, the women’s bathroom had the mirror smashed and the stall doors dented. During both incidents, vandals also attempted to flood each of the washrooms.”
Kang notes significant acts of vandalism also took place on separate occasions in April and May. The total cost of repairing the damage has now exceeded $1,000.
