SALMON ARM, B.C. — A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for the Shuswap region.
In an online weather statement Tuesday (June 11) morning, Environment Canada says conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms in the Shuswap that may be capable of producing damaging wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain. Intense lightning is also likely with any thunderstorm.
The weather agency warns that lightnings kills and injures residents, and strong wind gusts can damage buildings, down trees and blow large vehicles off the road.
Residents are encouraged to go indoors once they hear the sound of thunder.
