No definitive cause of fire that scorched Sahali Earl’s: Kamloops Fire Rescue

KAMLOOPS — Kamloops Fire Rescue investigators say there is no definitive cause for a fire that damaged the Earl’s Kitchen and Bar restaurant in Sahali early Tuesday (June 11).

Deputy Chief Ryan Cail says the fire started in some shrubs along an outside wall facing Columbia Street West.

“The crews managed to contain it to the exterior, however it did melt some of the outside window and there was some smoke that did get inside the building,” Cail told CFJC Today.

A shopping cart was found at the scene of the fire, but Cail noted there was little other evidence of what may have sparked the blaze.

“There was no definitive evidence that proved otherwise, other than ‘unknown,'” said Cail. “You could speculate all day long but there was no evidence of any kind of ignition specific to a human cause.”

“The fire itself could have been [blown] by the wind as well,” he added, “but obviously it had fuel — the shrubs — and that helped the ignition grow.”
