City of Kamloops reports $52 million in permit value in May

KAMLOOPS — Two multi-family projects and an institutional business carried the Kamloops building sector in May 2024.

New numbers released by the City of Kamloops Building Inspection Division show $52.6 million in permit activity in May, nearly double the $29.9 million during the same month last year.

Two multi-family – three or more units – permits were worth a combined $32.8 million in May 2024. The report shows 139 residential units were approved with 130 of them multi-family – three or more.

In total, the City reports $36.5 million in residential construction value from 21 permits last month.

Additionally, $14.8 million in commercial permit activity was recorded in May, nearly double the $7.7 million during the same month last year. The increase is thanks in part to an institutional permit worth $10 million.

In total, 380 permits have been approved throughout the first five months of 2024, down from 420 during the same timeframe last year. However, the $118.3 million in construction value in 2024 is nearly double the $64.8 million in 2023.
