Cariboo Memorial Hospital’s emergency department experiences fourth temporary closure of the year

WILLIAMS LAKE, B.C. — It’s the fourth temporary closure of the emergency department at Cariboo Memorial Hospital in Williams Lake in 2024.

From 7:30 p.m. Wednesday (June 5) to 7:30a.m. Thursday, Interior Health says emergency services at the largest hospital in the Cariboo will be unavailable due to limited nursing availability. In a news release issued Wednesday, Interior Health says all other inpatient services will continue as normal.

Patients in Williams Lake and area in need of emergency medical care are advised to visit either 100 Mile District General Hospital in 100 Mile House or GR Baker Memorial Hospital in Quesnel during the closure.

Residents are asked to call 9-1-1 in the event of an emergency, or HealthLink BC at 8-1-1 24/7 if they’re unsure if they need to seek emergency care.
