KAMLOOPS — Kamloops and District Fish and Game Association will play host to Father’s Day Fish, which will run from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on June 16 at Walloper Lake.

The event ties in with Family Fishing Weekend, which is held annually by B.C. Wildlife Federation (BCWF) member clubs in partnership with the Freshwater Fisheries Society of B.C.

Family Fishing Weekend is an opportunity to tackle fishing for the first time or indulge in a lifelong passion, according to a BCWF press release.

From Cowichan to Kootenay Lake, experienced anglers will be on hand to help bait hooks, tie lures and drop lines.

More than 800 lakes and rivers in B.C. are stocked with fish each year, using license dollars to support angling, but no license is required on Family Fishing Weekend.

On the third weekend in June, anyone who has lived in Canada for the past 12 months can fish in fresh water for free.

Fisheries and Oceans Canada also offers opportunities to fish in salt water.
