KAMLOOPS — The 10th Annual Terry Fox Ride of Hope is kicking off this weekend with 16 rides being held across the country this summer. Kamloops is hosting one of them for the first time and the goal is to raise funds for the Terry Fox Foundation.

The Terry Fox Ride of Hope has been happening since 2015. Saturday, 25 cyclists will take on the challenge to ride 180 kilometres through the Thompson-Nicola region — mostly on gravel roads — to support cancer research.

“The purpose is fundraising and supporting one another throughout the day,” said Sydney Flodstedt, the organizer of the Kamloops Ride of Hope. “The whole ride originated from kind of the spirit of Terry Fox doing something very hard. It’s not meant to be easy for anybody.”

The Kamloops Ride of Hope has already raised $16,000 but everyone is still encourage to support the cause.

“All the funds go directly to the Terry Fox Foundation which goes to support cancer research and care for patients dealing with cancer. There are many riders that, if people were still wanting to donate to, they could pick their favorite and donate a little bit to that,” Flodstedt explained.

Anyone who wants to support any of the riders can make a donation online.
